The Pregnancy - Week 24

Written by

This is Your 24th week. This week the doctor may get a glucose test done for you during your checkup. The doctor draws your blood for testing for gestational diabetes. Most of the time this test is done in the 24th week. Gestational diabetes is seen in 2 to 3 % of the pregnant women. Gestational diabetes can be controlled and usually disappears after delivery.

Gestational diabetes is caused in some women as the placenta produces certain hormones during pregnancy which will increase the insulin resistance in the mother’s body - meaning insulin hormone which keeps our blood sugars under control in our body, does not function properly because  of which the blood sugar levels in the body begin to increase.

The doctor may also check your weight. Your weight may increase more in the upcoming weeks. The baby’s skin is still transparent but is still going through changes. The baby’s height could be almost 14 inches and weigh close to 750 grams. Fat will be getting deposited and helps in keeping the temperature of the baby constant.
