The Pregnancy - Week 18

Written by

This is the 18th week. You may be feeling a lot hungry this week. This happens because the baby is being supported by the mother. You have to take care of what you eat as the baby is getting all its nutrition from you. You may also begin to gain weight. You should remember to stay active and do some mild exercises like walking and yoga and also avoid fatty foods.

The doctor may do an ultrasound this week to look for any abnormalities relating to the baby. If the doctor has any doubt about the health and growth of the baby, they may be doing further tests to detect it.

You may be able to see some changes in your breast this week and may also experience itching over your abdomen. The itching during this time is because of the stretching of the skin. Applying some moisturizer should help in relieving the itch.

What about the growth of the baby this week? The cartilage of the baby is slowly turning in to the bone and the baby could be moving his or her limbs more and this could be felt by you from outside too. This is known as quickening. The brain and spinal chord would also be developing and making innumerable connections with the rest of the body. The sense of smell, hearing, and vision would also be developing. The baby may also be able to hear you. The babies eyes may have developed by now, but are still closed.
