Postpartum problems

Seeing your little one for the first time can be a very emotional moment. So, now that you have bought your baby to this world, what can you as a mother expect in the next few days. Post part period usually begins immediately after delivery and lasts for a few weeks and months following your baby’s birth. Your body has gone through enormous changes during pregnancy. 

You have gone through a lot physically, mentally and emotionally. This is the time for you to rebuild your body and begin to regain your pre-pregnancy shape.

The more you know about what to expect, the better prepared you will be able to cope during this time. Make sure you have a lot of support from your spouse, relatives, and friends.

What are the symptoms you can expect during these times?

Women may experience a wide range of postpartum problems, some may be more serious than others and each with its own symptoms. Some of the more common problems include:

- Postpartum infections -  which can include infections of the uterus, bladder, or kidney

- Excessive bleeding after delivery

- Pain in the perineal area  which is the area between the vagina and the rectum

- Vaginal discharge

- Breast problems, such as swollen breasts, infection and clogged ducts

- Stretch marks

- Hemorrhoids and constipation

- Urinary or fecal incontinence

- Hair loss

- Postpartum depression

- Discomfort during sex

- Difficulty regaining your pre-pregnancy shape
