This pain that many women experience in the lower abdominal area is called the round ligament pain. It can be a sharp, stabbing pain that only lasts for a little while or a dull aching pain that lasts a bit longer. While this round ligament pain is typically nothing to worry about.
What is the reason for this pain?
Several thick ligaments surround and support your womb (uterus) as it grows during pregnancy. One of them is called the round ligament. The round ligament connects the front part of the womb to the groin, the area where your legs attach to your pelvis. The round ligament normally tightens and relaxes slowly. As the baby grows in the uterus it causes the round ligament to stretch. That makes it more likely to become strained. This strain causes pain in the lower abdomen. Movements can cause the ligament to tighten and this causes the pain.
Avoid sudden movements. While there is pain try to rest. if you feel worried, or the pain never goes away after you have rested and taken it easy, then do not hesitate to call your physician.
